PALM BEACH, Fla. — U.S. President Donald Trump cast the United States assault on a Syrian air base as vital to deter future use of poison gas and called on other nations to join in seeking “to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria.”
The U.S. blasted the air base Thursday night with a barrage of cruise missiles in fiery retaliation for this week’s gruesome chemical weapons attack against civilians.
It was the first direct American assault on the Syrian government and Trump’s most dramatic military order since becoming president just over two months ago. The strikes also risk thrusting the U.S. deeper into an intractable conflict that his predecessor spent years trying to avoid.
A year ago today, we lost Merle Haggard, the country music icon. And on his new album God’s Problem Child, Willie Nelson — Haggard’s friend, contemporary, and frequent touring buddy — pays Haggard tribute on a new song called “He Won’t Ever Be Gone.”
It’s a mellow, plainspoken remembrance, with Nelson singing some kind words about one of the few people who he could really ever call a peer. The stately black-and-white video shows Nelson recording the song, and it’s got some footage of Haggard in the studio too.
For years he kept it a secret, fearing his fans would be disappointed if the truth was revealed.
But on Wednesday, at the age of 73 and at the end of one of the longest and most successful careers in show business, Barry Manilow finally announced to the world that he is gay.
The music legend also confirmed that in 2014 he had married his longtime manager, Garry Kief, in a ceremony at their home in Palm Springs, California.

Hey I can appreciate Conor in the octagon, and Yes he could beat some mid level boxers out there, But Floyd Mayweather is going to destroy him. Nobody has beaten Floyd and Conor McGregor, sure can’t beat him, NOT GONNA HAPPEN. This is all about big pay days and Conor is going to get knocked out and embarrassed, but will still be smiling right to the bank on this one.
UFC president Dana White feels like he has to green light the super fight between UFC star Conor McGregor and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr .
White was originally against the idea of the fight ever happening but McGregor’s flexible fighting nature seems to have swayed the head of the UFC.
But White doesn’t want to take away the opportunity of a lifetime from the UFC lightweight champion.
“The kid steps up. He’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. A lot of people say it, very few really mean it. I call him [McGregor] the unicorn. I’ve never dealt with a kid like this,” White told Fox Sport.
Twitter co-founder and current board member Ev Williams is going to offload some of his Twitter stock.
Williams, who was once Twitter’s CEO and is the company’s largest individual shareholder, said Thursday that he plans to sell a “minority of my TWTR” stock over the next year. A Twitter spokesperson said that he doesn’t plan to sell “more than 30 percent” of his holdings.
Williams was careful to say the sale was for “personal” reasons, not company performance reasons. Twitter’s stock is down more than 15 percent over the past three months.
Williams explained the sale in a blog post, and wrote that he has spent a lot of money investing through his venture fund, Obvious Ventures, and also donated a lot to charity and political campaigns over the past year. “I’d like to continue,” he added.
Williams sold about $4 million in stock this week, according to an SEC filing, and has set up a 10b5-1 trading plan.
Wednesday, April 5, 2017, 4:45 PM – Yet another moisture laden low is set to push into southern Ontario and southeastern Québec starting Wednesday night and impact the region through Friday with significant rainfall and some accumulating snow.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for most of southern Ontario, with 30 to 50 mm expected into Thursday. With this comes the risk of localized flooding as “the ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall,” according to Environment Canada.
Meanwhile, snowfall warnings have been issued for Algonquin and Burk’s Falls, with 15 to 25 cm possible.
Here’s a breakdown of the system based on timing:
En route northeastward from Texas and Oklahoma, the low will push into the Great Lakes Basin through Wednesday afternoon. As it does, a cold front associated with the low will trigger a line of strong to severe thunderstorms across parts of the Midwest all the way through to the southeastern U.S
